ICELDA intern obtains MA at Rijksuniversteit Groningen
Anna Pot, who served a four-month internship with ICELDA, has just graduated summa cum laude from the Rijksuniversiteit Groningen (RUG). The MA degree in Applied Linguistics was conferred upon her at a ceremony on 21 August, for the dissertaion entitled Diagnosing academic language ability: An analysis of TALPS. Shown here receiving the degree from Prof. Kees de Bot, former deputy dean in the RUG Faculty of Arts and an affiliated professor in the Department of Linguistics and Language Practice at the University of the Free State, she was commended for her outstanding work.
While at ICELDA, Anna also worked on her dissertation on the diagnostic information yielded by our Test of Academic Literacy for Postgraduate Students (TALPS). “The implications of some of her findings for the design of subsequent versions of TALPS are really exciting,” says Albert Weideman, who co-supervised the dissertation, adding that “Anna is a rare talent: competent, efficient, reliable, independent.” We wish her well in her future career!
