ICELDA sponsors keynote at joint 2013 SAALT/SAALA/LSSA conference

Cathie ElderAs in previous years, ICELDA has brought a top international scholar to South Africa to participate in applied linguistics debate and discussion. One of the world’s foremost applied linguists, Prof. Cathie Elder of the University of Melbourne, has accepted an invitation to deliver a keynote at this year’s joint conference of three of South Africa’s scholarly organisations for language. The SAALT/SAALA/LSSA joint 2013 conference will be held in Stellenbosch between 1 and 4 July. Prof. Elder will speak on “Outcomes-based language frameworks: Can they accommodate the diversity of language learner achievements?” Subsequent to this, she will meet in Bloemfontein with key members of the Home Languages Project that ICELDA is undertaking for Umalusi. Prof. Elder was the director of the prestigious Language Testing Research Centre of the University of Melbourne, has made numerous contributions to standard references in the field, and is former co-editor of Language testing.
