Another board member retires, and a new member welcomed
At its recent board meeting in Potchefstroom, ICELDA also took leave of another board member of long standing, Jurie Geldenhuys. Like Johann van der Walt, Jurie played an early role not only at board level, but also in assisting with the design and development of our Test of Academic Literacy Levels (TALL). He joined the board as acting director of UP’s Unit for Academic Literacy (UAL), and we are grateful for all the unstinting effort he put into the cause of language testing, as editor of no fewer than two special editions of accredited journals on this topic. Jurie is replaced on the board by the incoming director of the UAL, Prof. Adelia Carstens. She is an established and experienced applied linguist, an NRF rated scientist, and will bring a new set of expertise to the deliberations of the board. As we say goodbye to Jurie and welcome her, we wish both well.
