Another first for Eunice with workshop on academic literacy assessment
Grade 12 learners of the award-winning Bloemfontein school, Eunice, last week participated in another first: a workshop for learners preparing to write tests of academic literacy for entry into tertiary study. Students who are applying for university are often required to write tests of academic literacy, such as the National Benchmark Test (NBTs), but also others, like ICELDA’s Tests of Academic Literacy Levels (TALL, and TAG, the Afrikaans version). The results of these tests are employed by some institutions to determine access, and others to place new students on courses aimed at developing their ability to handle the demands of academic language. Eunice, which regularly tops the charts with its final Grade 12 results, has just again been honoured in the ratings of schools by Fair Lady magazine, so it comes as no surprise that they have again showed the way by exposing their learners to this 3-hour preparation session.
