Book of practice tests of academic literacy now available

Grade 12 students who are applying for university are often required to write tests of academic literacy and mathematics, such as the National Benchmark Tests (NBTs) and others. “Each university now has its own set of requirements, and senior secondary school learners should check what these are”, says Albert Weideman, ICELDA CEO. “Most universities require applicants to write some academic literacy test, either for placement on a support course, or, more often, for access, before entry is secured.” As a result, there is a huge demand for the Sample test on the ICELDA website. ICELDA has therefore brought together a team of South Africa’s most experienced language test designers to make available two books of practice tests, one in English (Academic literacy: Test your competence), and one in Afrikaans, (Akademiese geletterdheid: Toets jou vermoë). These tests will enable learners to practise and sharpen their ability to use academic language, and are available from Geronimo Distribution (Pty) Ltd.
