New Test of Emergent Literacy being developed
A new Test of Emergent Literacy (TEL) is being developed for ICELDA by Sophie Gruhn, MA in Multilingualism student from the Rijksuniversiteit Groningen (RUG) in the Netherlands. She will do this as part of her studies for this newly instituted RUG degree, and also write up a theoretical defence for the design of the test in her dissertation, which is being supervised jointly by Dr Nanna Hilton of RUG and ICELDA CEO Albert Weideman. The test will build on the Test of Early Academic Literacy (TEAL) developed by ICELDA project associate Sanet Steyn for 8-9 year olds, but, as the name indicates, will aim much lower down the education level, at 5-6 year olds. What will make the test different from several others is that it will take an interactive perspective on the emergence of literacy. ICELDA hopes to refine the draft test and pilot it within the next two months.
