Current projects
MA in Applied Linguistics
Initiated by ICELDA, a new postgraduate qualification will be offered by the University of Pretoria’s Unit for Academic Literacy from 2025 onwards: a coursework M.A. in Applied Linguistics.
This is a one-year degree for qualifying postgraduate students who want to contribute to a multilingual, democratic society by immersing themselves in the design of applied linguistic interventions, such as language courses, multilingual pedagogies, tests, policies, and the like.
The degree includes coursework and the writing of a mini-dissertation.
Fair and unbiased testing (including online and paper-based, discipline specific testing and test translation) in multiple languages, funded by SADiLaR.
Diagnostic, placement, and proficiency testing, funded by SADiLaR.
Writing development aids (online writing aid platform), funded by SADiLaR and KU Leuven.
Writing centre support materials (educational videos, handouts, exercises, consultant training manual), funded by NWU.
Anti-plagiarism training materials: an interactive referencing tool, with exercises, handouts and videos, funded by NWU.
